Occupational Safety and Health
Based on the Industrial Safety and Health Act, Asahi Tanker encourages all employees to regularly receive health check-ups, employees aged 35 and above are especially encouraged to receive a complete health check-up to improve health awareness. We ensure that each employee has access to check-up facilities, and aim for 100% health check-up completion rate.
Our marine employees receive health check-ups based on the Mariners Act, and marine employees aged 35 or over receive health check-ups for the prevention of lifestyle related diseases. Working at sea is significantly different from working on land and marine employees are required to work in a unique higher risk environment. One hundred percent of our marine employees receive health check-ups.
In addition, Stress Checks are provided annually to monitor the mental health of all employees. We established a system so employees evaluated as being under extreme stress can consult with a specialist to prevent mental health issues.
Based on the Industrial Safety and Health Act, Asahi Tanker has established Health Management Regulations for the prevention of employee health issues and accidents, promotion of employee health, and establishment of a comfortable work environment. According to the Health Management Regulations, the Health Committee meets once a month for the purpose of educating employees on the prevention of health issues.
In addition, we strive to ensure safety and health for work on ships based on Regulations for Labor Safety and Health of Seafarers in the Mariners Act.
The prevention of health issues and industrial accidents cannot be realized without cooperation from the workers. Based on this concept, at Asahi Tanker, employees and management work together on safety and health activities.
Initiatives for the Prevention of Industrial Accidents
For the purpose of controlling long work hours, alerts are sent to employees automatically by email in case of working overtime longer than a certain number of overtime work hours which encourage the employees to see the industrial physician. In addition, for marine employees, in order to ensure the number of work hours remains within the work hours set forth by the Mariners Act, we strictly manage the work hours of marine employees with a labor management system.
To reduce overtime hours, Asahi Tanker set every Wednesday as a no overtime day and conducts a campaign to ensure employees leave the office by 8 p.m. every day. Following the introduction of No Overtime Workday, the number of overtime work hours of employees was significantly reduced.
